Cal Poly Group to Study Biodiversity, Ecotourism
and International Business in Costa Rica

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly Continuing Education is hosting a summer program in Costa Rica focusing on that country’s biodiversity, ecotourism and international business operations. Costa Rica is emerging as a model for preserving natural habitats while encouraging economic growth and international business. The program will run from July 13-22.

The trip includes visits to coffee and banana operations, ecotourism facilities and national parks.  Highlights include visits to INBio, a non-profit biodiversity organization, Poas Volcano National Park and the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center in Selva Verde, also known as the Green Jungle. There will be time to explore San Jose, Costa Rica and Playa Hermosa on the country’s west coast, as well as a guided hike in the Chilamate Reserve and a boat ride on the Sarapiqui River.

The Costa Rica study program is sponsored by Cal Poly Continuing Education and University Outreach in partnership with Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. The program is structured both as an academic course for students in Cal Poly’s Adult Degree Program and other Cal Poly students, but is open to anyone interested in learning more about Costa Rica, its culture and biodiversity, ecotourism operations and international business practices. Those interested in exploring developing trade or other business operations in Costa Rica are encouraged to participate.

The cost for the program is $3,315 and includes airfare, lodging in three- and four-star hotels, all meals, transfers between program locations, insurance, airline taxes, port charges and four units of academic credit for those participating as part of a degree program. The deposit deadline for holding a space in the program is March 1.

Continuing Education also offers study-travel programs in Spain, Mexico, Greece and the Czech Republic.
