Cal Poly Architecture Professor Speaks on Sustainability
in Higher Education at UCSB Conference
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly Architecture Professor Margot McDonald spoke on the advancement of sustainability in higher education at the 6th Annual University of California, California State University, and California Community College Sustainability Conference in late June.
The 2007 conference was held at UC Santa Barbara; during the conference, Cal Poly was announced as host of the 2008 conference.
McDonald joined Tom Kimmerer, executive director of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and others to present a broad view of the landscape of sustainability within curriculum and research in higher education. McDonald focused on the teaching of sustainability in design programs.
The UC, CSU, CCC Sustainability Conference highlights best practices in sustainability at California campuses and offers participants an opportunity to collaborate with other campuses, government, business, and non-profit entities. More than 800 participants and representatives from all over the state attended the conference, including representatives from all ten UC campuses, 20 CSU campuses, and 10 community colleges, along with representatives from 50 businesses.
