In a sweetly savored victory in Men's Basketball this past month, Cal Poly won at UC Santa Barbara for only the second time since 1959, beating the Gauchos 71-61 in a Big West Conference men’s basketball game Jan. 20.
The Saturday night game took place before 3,748 fans at the Thunderdome. Before the Jan. 20 game, Cal Poly had beaten UC Santa Barbara only once in the last 48 years in Santa Barbara: at a 68-66 win on Jan. 22, 1998.
Mustang Maniacs (otherwise known as fans) can watch the team on TV Feb. 24. The men’s basketball game at Cal State Fullerton will be televised by Fox Sports Net Prime Ticket that afternoon. Tip-off has been set for 1:05 pm to accommodate a live telecast.

Cal Poly football player Kyle Shotwell was one of the standouts in the collegiate footbal Shrine Game in January.
The senior the only Division I-AA players on the West squad, and the third Cal Poly player in the past three years to play in the prestigious game.
In the 82nd annual East-West Shrine Game Jan. 20, the Mustang linebacker led all players with seven tackles (five solo). He was also voted by the all-star game's coaches and selection committee as the Pat Tillman Award winner, recognized for his character and work ethic.
