From the Orchards to Harvard -- Alum Makes the Leap to Aid Others
As a child, Martin Curiel (B.S., Civil Engineering, 1998) worked through the fields of California, Oregon and Washington with his family as a migrant farm worker. He came to Cal Poly a year after surviving a car crash in which his father died, along with several other migrant workers. After earning his engineering degree, he went to work for Texaco -- then went on to Harvard, where he earned an M.B.A. Now a consultant with Deloitte & Touche, he strives to help others from migrant families -- and urged University of Texas students to do the same. Curiel gave the keynote speech this month at the College Assistance Migrant Program at the University of Texas at Brownsville.
