Statement from Cal Poly Regarding Nov. 16 Fraternity Party

Cal Poly is currently reviewing an off-campus party that occurred on Nov. 16 that may have included culturally insensitive, sexist, and offensive behavior.  While the gathering was held off campus, the university takes diversity and inclusivity very seriously.  Behavior that threatens these important principles is unacceptable and has no place in the Cal Poly community.

Please know that the party was not sanctioned or condoned by the university and does not measure up to Cal Poly’s vision of embracing diversity.  The university’s goal is to foster a campus that is open and diverse, providing a welcoming and safe environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors.

To this end, a forum was held Friday (Nov. 22) for the campus community.  Its purpose was to discuss and reinforce the important values of diversity and their role in maintaining a campus that is a thriving, healthy community for all.  The forum was one initiative in Cal Poly’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of support, diversity, inclusivity and community engagement. This review of last weekend’s gathering continues; results will be disclosed in a timely manner once it is concluded.
