FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Russia’s Red Star Red Army Chorus & Dance Ensemble Plays the PAC

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA –  On Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center’s Cohan Center, Cal Poly Arts proudly presents THE RED STAR RED ARMY CHORUS & DANCE ENSEMBLE, direct from Russia and led by Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Nikolai N. Rabovsky.

Celebrating the ensemble’s 20th Anniversary tour, this spectacular will showcase the consummate glory, tradition, and national pride of Russia with a dazzling display of musicians and dancers who are regarded as the leading performing group of the country’s armed forces.

The company belongs to the Rocket Troops of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense. While some members are in the military, most of the musicians and singers are civilians working for the Ensemble.

Originally, the Ensemble performed concerts primarily for troops of the Missile Forces. In 1989, the Ensemble expanded its artistic horizons – no longer limited to entertaining the troops, the group participated in arts festivals in many cities of Russia.

Soon, they moved into top concert halls of Moscow and eventually embarked on foreign tours to Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Belgium, and the United States.

The Ensemble has plans for recordings, television specials, participating in arts festivals in Russia, the Ukraine, and Belorussia, while also touring Europe and the Far East. The Red Star Red Army is the only Russian military ensemble that performed in Hong Kong before and after the legendary reunion of Hong Kong with Mainland China.

Student and adult tickets for the performance range from $16 to $44 and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Ticket Office, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
