Cal Poly Marketing Students Develop On-Campus Promotional Program with Chevrolet

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Seniors in Cal Poly’s marketing program in the Orfalea College of Business have partnered with Chevrolet and its affiliate, Edventure Partners, to conduct on-campus marketing as a class project. The partnership will help students gain hands-on skills in experiential marketing, a growing segment in today’s marketing mix.

The team will be responsible for researching, implementing and evaluating an integrated marketing communications campaign for four Chevrolet models: the Camaro, Equinox, Malibu and a new model, the 2011 Cruze.

The team’s strategy is to promote the vehicles with three on-campus events on Dexter Lawn on Nov. 4, 9 and 15, each featuring a different vehicle.

To manage the program, the students have created a working promotions agency, Wild Horse Advertising, with team members assigned to account management, public relations, advertising, budgeting, event management, research and reporting.

The entire program, from concept to execution and reporting, will be executed during the fall quarter, requiring the students to utilize effective leadership and communication skills.

The student team will receive $3,000 to put on the events. The Cal Poly team is competing for prizes and awards as one of 23 universities participating in the campus promotion program.
