Cal Poly’s VolunteerSLO.org Web Site Connects with Statewide Network

SAN LUIS OBISPO – VolunteerSLO.org, a public web site supported by The Community Center at Cal Poly, is now part of the statewide volunteer matching network.

This network, known as the California Volunteer Matching Network, is utilizing technology and the expertise of volunteer connector organizations around the state to significantly increase the number of Californians engaged in local volunteer opportunities.

Community centers and databases like VolunteerSLO.org are called “Hubs.” In California, there are 30 “Hubs” providing coverage in 47 counties. The primary purpose of the “Hubs” is connecting volunteers to service opportunities.

VolunteerSLO.org is a comprehensive database of local volunteer opportunities in San Luis Obispo County. The web site was created more than five years ago and was recently upgraded to link to www.CaliforniaVolunteers.org, which was launched in 2006 to match potential volunteers across the state.

VolunteerSLO.org allows interested volunteers to search by volunteer categories or by date. The web site has more than 200 nonprofit agencies and is getting new agencies all the time.

Local nonprofits are doing their best to meet the growing demands for services with shrinking budgets and resource scarcity. Now more than ever, San Luis Obispo County is relying on volunteers to continue making the community the best that it can be.

If you are interested in volunteering in San Luis Obispo County or would like to post a volunteer opportunity for a local nonprofit agency, please visit VolunteerSLO.org.

VolunteerSLO.org will mark its change to a statewide hub with an official launch Thursday, Oct. 28. The event will run 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NonProfit Collaboration Forum at the Adult School in San Luis Obispo (1500 Lizzie St.). For more information, visit www.collaborationslo.org.
