Award-Winning Native American Photographer Coming to Cal Poly Nov. 8

SAN LUIS OBISPO – In celebration of Native American Heritage month, the Cal Poly MultiCultural Center will present photographer Peggy Fontenot on Nov. 8 to display and discuss her works.

Her exhibit, titled “Surviving Assimilation: The Contemporary Native American,” will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in UU 204 (Right Wing Chumash).

Fontenot has been exhibiting her work nationally since 1991 and has won numerous awards. Her exhibit displays the prosperity of Native American culture despite governmental attempts at assimilation.

The MultiCultural Center cultivates a campuswide community that represents and celebrates the diversity of Cal Poly’s student body and aims to empower students with the resources, skills and opportunities necessary for academic achievement, leadership development and purposeful civic engagement while providing them with a safe and welcoming home away from home.

All events are free and open to public. For more information, contact Elizabeth Graham at 805-756-1405 or mcc@calpoly.edu, or visit the MultiCultural Center web site at http://multicultural.calpoly.edu.
