Cal Poly’s Provocative Perspectives Series Begins Nov. 18
with Jenna (Bush) Hager

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Jenna Hager, “Today” show correspondent and daughter of former President George W. Bush, will speak at Cal Poly on Nov. 18 in the first installment of the university’s 2010-11 Provocative Perspectives series.

Hager’s talk will focus on “Making a Difference: How the Power of Compassion Changes Lives.”

Hager’s work on NBC’s “Today” focuses on telling the inspirational stories of wonderful people doing great things across America. She also is an active teacher who serves as a reading coordinator in Baltimore, Md.

In 2006, Hager traveled to Latin America as an intern with UNICEF. During her journey, she was inspired to write “Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope,” a New York Times bestseller based on the life of a 17-year-old single mother living with HIV and determined to shield her child from the abuse and neglect that riddled her own childhood.

Hager is still very involved with the organization and is currently chairwoman of UNICEF’s Next Generation, an initiative dedicated to reducing the number of preventable childhood deaths around the world.

Hager is a graduate of the University of Texas where she received a degree in English. In addition to “Ana’s Story,” she is the co-author of “Read All About It!” – written with her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, and aimed at encouraging children to read.

Hager will speak in the Performing Arts Center at 8 a.m. Coffee will be served at 7:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. For more information call 756-0327 or e-mail Liz Cofer at lcofer@calpoly.edu.

People with disabilities may request accommodations in advance by contacting the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at 805-756-1521.
