Another Type of Groove to Feature Poet Ike Torres Nov. 3 at Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Another Type of Groove: Spoken Word Poetry (ATOG) brings poet Ike Torres to Cal Poly’s campus Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium.
Torres is a Chicano/Native spoken word artist, student and activist from Sacramento. He has been performing since 2005 and has been a member of the Sacramento Slam Team (2005 and 2006). Torres blends the disciplines of theatre and spoken word as well as comedy to bring his words to life. He has worked with several youth programs, providing writing and spoken word workshops.
Cal Poly’s MultiCultural Center presents Another Type of Groove the first Wednesday of each month. It also features an open mic portion, which provides an opportunity to create dialogue among students, faculty, staff and community members through poetry.
The MultiCultural Center cultivates a campus-wide community that represents and celebrates the diversity of Cal Poly's student body and aims to empower students with the resources, skills and opportunities necessary for academic achievement, leadership development, and purposeful civic engagement while providing them with a safe and welcoming home away from home.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Marielle Cuison at 805-756-1405 or mcc@calpoly.edu, or visit the MultiCultural Center web site at http://multicultural.calpoly.edu.
