Cal Poly’s Fire Protection Engineering Program Gains Final Approval

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s new Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering degree program has gained final approval from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Earning WASC approval was the final step needed before the program can be offered at Cal Poly. The California State University approved the program in April, after it had gone through a year-long review and approval process on campus.

“Students can now apply to the program and be admitted for the fall 2010 quarter,” said Chris Pascual, the program’s graduate coordinator. “We are very pleased with the rapid response from WASC and their commendations for Cal Poly and the program.”

The Fire Protection Engineering program will be offered by the College of Engineering in partnership with Continuing Education.

“Cal Poly will be only the third university in the nation to offer this program and the only one on the west coast,” said Dennis Parks, the university’s dean of Continuing Education. “Cal Poly saw a need for this program in California and responded.”

Students interested in the program will be able to apply through CSU Mentor starting later this week. Additional information on the fire protection engineering program can be found at: http://www.continuing-ed.calpoly.edu/degrees/fpe.html.
