Cal Poly Wine Releases New White Blend
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Wine and Viticulture Program has released a new wine: Mustang White, a blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris exhibiting the minerality and crispness of a European-style wine.
Student winemakers produced 951 cases of the new blend using grapes grown in Arroyo Grande, Edna Valley and Santa Barbara County.
Melon, tangerine, citrus, apple and pear flavors make this light, refreshing wine a perfect complement to crab cakes, smoked cheeses, bruschetta or grilled vegetables. Prices are $14 per bottle, $151.20 per case, including a 10 percent discount for orders placed online on the Cal Poly Wine Web site, www.calpolywine.com.
The new Mustang White is available at Central Coast Wines and Cal Poly Downtown on Higuera Street in downtown San Luis Obispo.
About Cal Poly Wine
Cal Poly Wines are made by students in the university's Wine and Viticulture program. Cal Poly captured medals with each of the four 2007 wines it entered in the 2009 San Francisco International Wine Competition. Judges at the prestigious event awarded a double-gold medal to the Mustang Red wine (a blend of Paso Robles Zinfandel and Edna Valley Syrah). Cal Poly also captured a gold medal for its Syrah and silver medals for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2007 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay also each won a gold medal in the wine competition at the 2009 California Mid-State Fair.
