Cal Poly to Host Speaker on Jerusalem on March 4
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Richard Hecht, distinguished professor of religious studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara will present a talk “Jerusalem: the Torn City” on Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in The Performing Arts Center’s Philips Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Hecht maintains the divisions that tear Jerusalem apart go deeper than just Israeli and Palestinian differences, but to the cultural differences of numerous sects and descendents of other regions.
The multimedia presentation will explore these complex relations and speak to the future of what Hecht refers to as the “city of peace.”
The Religious Studies Program, the Philosophy Department and the College of Liberal Arts sponsor the event. The event is free and open to the public.
