W. Terrence Spiller’s Jan. 7 Piano Recital at
Cal Poly to Include Liszt Commemorative

SAN LUIS OBISPO - Music Department Chair and pianist W. Terrence Spiller will give a benefit recital of works by Brahms, Hindemith, Debussy and Liszt at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in the Spanos Theatre at Cal Poly.

The first half of Spiller’s program will feature Johannes Brahms’ “Vier Klavierstucke,” Op. 119, followed by Paul Hindemith’s "Piano Sonata No. 3 in B flat major."

The second half will contain works by Claude Debussy and Franz Liszt; the works by Liszt commemorate his 200th birthday. The segment will begin with Debussy’s “Children’s Corner” and conclude with three works by Liszt: two selections from his “Transcendental Études” (“Paysage” and the “Allegro molto agitato”), and his “Scherzo and March.”

Tickets to the recital are $6 for students and senior citizens and $10 for the public. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (805-756-2787).
