Cal Poly Wines Take More Medals in Southern California
SAN LUIS OBISPO –Cal Poly wines received gold, silver and bronze medals at two Southern California wine judging events in July.
Cal Poly’s 2008 Mustang Red garnered a Unanimous Judges Gold Medal at the 2010 Riverside International Wine Competition and a Gold Medal at the 2010 Long Beach Grand Cru International Wine Competition.
Also taking home gold at the Riverside event was the 2008 Chardonnay. The Chardonnay and the 2008 Pinot Noir took silver in Long Beach.
The 2008 Mustang White, 2008 Poly Royal Port and the 2008 Cal Poly Syrah all took bronze at both the Riverside and Long Beach events.
All the wines were made by student winemakers in Cal Poly’s Wine and Viticulture Program from grapes grown in San Luis Obispo County.

The Cal Poly Wine and Viticulture Program is part of the Horticulture and Crop Science Department in Cal Poly’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences. Since it launched in 2006, the Cal Poly Wine Program has grown to produce several wines. Student winemakers are selected for each vintage through a mentoring program.
