Strategic Plan in Final Draft; Public Comments Sought
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- A final draft of a new Cal Poly Strategic Plan has been completed after two years of research and input from students, faculty, alumni, industry partners and university staff. The Strategic Plan can be viewed at http://www.academicaffairs.calpoly.edu/StrategicPlan/index.html, and the public is invited to comment.
"This draft is a thorough update of the university's previous plan," notes Vice Provost Erling Smith, who supervised the drafting process. "While the process was driven by the fact that a newly updated plan is required for accreditation, a well-thought out plan is something every quality organization should have as its roadmap for the future," Smith said.
The plan's vision statement says, "Cal Poly will be the nation's premier comprehensive polytechnic university, a nationally recognized, innovative institution focused on helping California meet future challenges in a global context.''
The plan lays out core values to guide the university in its mission, as well as key performance indicators to track the university's progress. The draft will be presented to President Warren Baker's successor. Baker has announced his plans to retire once a successor assumes office. The presidential search is expected to be completed in June.
