Zero Waste at Cal Poly Open House 2010
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly Open House has made large strides toward accomplishing Zero Waste as a part of its 2010 event, which will take place April 15-17. By coordinating with the Cal Poly Zero Waste club, Open House organizers were able to find innovative ways to eliminate waste at the event.
The Zero Waste Club created an event planning manual of suggestions for the Open House program. They also coordinated with Open House to develop methods to compost lunches during Friday/Saturday programs.
Open House is also implementing composting stations at each booth zone throughout the day Saturday where guests will be able to dispose of leftover food in an Earth-friendly way. Volunteers will be at each station directing guests in order to avoid contaminating the stations. Open House will also use compostable plates and utensils to further reduce the waste impact.
Open House will continue to work with the Zero Waste club to find additional ways to reduce waste and create a greener and more environmentally friendly event.
