Cal Poly MultiCultural Center Presents California State Step Show on April 23

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly MultiCultural Center is proud to present its first California State Step Show from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Performing Arts Pavilion.

The tradition of African American stepping is rooted from African and Caribbean dance drawn from elements of gymnastics, tap dance, and marching. During the mid-20th century, traditionally-black fraternities and sororities on college campuses traditionally sang and chanted to celebrate “crossing over” into membership of their respective organizations. This show will contain salutes, strolls and stepping from Cultural Greeks and some Black Greeks from the National Pan-Hellenic.

This will be the MultiCultural Center’s last event for Black History Month for the 2009-10 school year.

The MultiCultural Center cultivates a campuswide community that represents and celebrates the diversity of Cal Poly's student body. This event is free and open to the public.
