Cal Poly’s Pride Center Hosts Pride Week May 9-15

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly’s Pride Center will host 15 special events for students and the public during Pride Week, from May 9-15.

The Pride Center aims to educate people about the issues facing the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community. Our annual Pride Week celebrates the diversity and the commonalities within the LGBTQ community and brings visibility to LGBTQ people and issues in order to create a welcoming environment on campus for all students regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Activities open to the public include:

Monday, May 10

  • LGBT Square Dance Workshop, 7 – 9 p.m. in University Union, Room 207 (Chumash Right).

Tuesday, May 11

  • Soup & Substance: Breaking the Silence: Transgender Voices in the SLO Community, presented by the Pride Center, 11 a.m. – noon in University Union, Room 220.
  • Let’s Get it On! – Safe Sex Workshop, 7 – 8:30 p.m. in Building 53, Room 213.

Wednesday, May 12

  • Ally Training Workshop, 10 a.m. – noon. in University Union, Room 219.
  • Film: “If These Walls Could Talk 2,” co-presented by Women’s Programs, 7 – 9 p.m. in University Union, Room 220.

Thursday, May 13

  • BBQ Lunch, co-presented by Theta Chi, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Dexter Lawn. $2 donation for meal goes to AIDS Support Network.
  • Transgender 101 Workshop, 2 – 4 p.m. in University Union, Room 219
  • The Dollhouse: Drag Show and Benefit, presented by Delta Lambda Phi, 8 p.m., Downtown Brew, $12 advance tickets from Boo Boo Records and Ticketweb.com, $15 at the door.

Friday, May 14

  • Courage Academy: Progressive Voter Education, presented by the Courage Campaign, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in University Union, Room 216.
