Another Type of Groove Presents ATOG Creator
Mark Fabionar on May 5 at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly MultiCultural Center is proud to present the creator and founder of Another Type of Groove, Mark Fabionar, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 at the Performing Arts Pavilion.

This is the last Another Type of Groove event for the 2009-10 school year.

Fabionar is an educator, poet and consultant who delivered his first open mic poem at the age of 5. He is a former member of the “Sacramento Poetry Slam Team” and has served as an artist-in-residence for the “Sinag-tala Theater Project.” In 2004 Fabionar published a book and CD of poetry titled, “Back Home: A Clean Purple Haze and Radical Spaces of Possibility.”

He is the founder of “The Inflection Point Project (TIPP),” an educational endeavor that uses the creative arts as a vehicle for individual and organizational transformation. Through TIPP, Mark has collaborated with other artists and change agents to deliver human potential workshops and performances throughout California and to business and political leaders in Guatemala. TIPP is working on a US-Iran citizen diplomacy project that uses poetry as a means for engagement.

Another Type of Groove is a spoken-word poetry event held the first Wednesday of each month throughout the school year. It is intended to create a place for the interchange of ideas, beliefs and personal expression. Each event features a highlighted poet as well as an open mic opportunity for interested students, staff, faculty, and community members.

The MultiCultural Center cultivates a campuswide community that represents and celebrates the diversity of Cal Poly's student body. This event is free and open to the public.
