Cal Poly Homecoming Weekend to
Feature Honored Alums, Tailgates and Football
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Alumni Association will host the 2009 Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 16 and 17. The weekend kicks off with the Honored Alumni Banquet in Chumash Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 16, with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $60 per person.
Cal Poly’s Honored Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon Cal Poly alumni. The award was established more than 30 years ago to provide recognition for outstanding graduates and former students of Cal Poly.
The award now recognizes alumni from the university’s six academic colleges: Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; Architecture and Environmental Design; Orfalea College of Business; Engineering; Liberal Arts; Science and Mathematics which includes the School of Education.
Honored alumni for 2009 include
- Ed Boutonnet (CRSC ’62), president and CEO of Ocean Mist Farms.
- Wallace B. Gordon (ARCH ’79, ’80), president of Deems Lewis McKinley Architects of San Francisco.
- Darran S. Littlefield (BUS ’85), co-founder and partner of Point B Solutions Group, LLC, headquartered in Seattle, Wash.
- Arlene Chandler, (EDUC ’63) served as Cal Poly’s Associate Dean of Women; and taught sociology, marriage and family relations and child development at Cuesta Community College, where she served as Chair of the Human Development Division.
- Jon Monett (ENG, ’64) chairman of Quality of Life Plus (QL+), a company he founded to generate research, development and innovations to aid and improve the quality of life for those injured in the line of duty.
- Paul L. Cousineau (GRC ’85) director of Innovation and Continuous Improvement for Dow Jones, publisher of the Wall Street Journal and Barron’s.
- Robert H. Davis (MATH ’65) president of Rubber Recovery Inc., a California-based scrap and tire processing and recycling company.
Manfred Sander (ASCI ’53) will receive the Distinguished Service Award for 20 years of service to the university including work on the Cal Poly Alumni Association Board, long-time service for the Rodeo Boosters, participation on the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Advisory Council and other philanthropic and fundraising activities.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Alumni Association will host the Grand Reunion Lunch, which will honor the class of 1959 and earlier. Lunch begins at 11 a.m. in the Robert E. Kennedy Library. Tickets are $20. Grand Reunion activities include the luncheon in the library, tours of campus and special welcome from the 1959 Class President, Dan Haley.
Following the luncheon, the Alumni Association will host the Cal Poly Homecoming BBQ Tailgate from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. on the O’Neill Green in front of the Orfalea College of Business. Tailgate tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members, $10 Youth (12 & younger). More than 3,000 alumni, family and friends are expected to attend the BBQ Tailgate.
At 6:05 p.m. Cal Poly will host Southern Utah during the Homecoming Football Game in the Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Tickets are $20.
