Cal Poly’s Annual Bandfest Concert on Nov. 21
SAN LUIS OBISPO - More than two hundred collegiate musicians will perform in Cal Poly’s annual Bandfest. Titled “A Whirldwind of Color and Sound,” the concert will be held in Harman Hall of the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m.
The concert will feature the Cal Poly Wind Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and the “Pride of the Pacific” Mustang Marching Band in an evening of bold and powerful works for both the modern wind band and the traditional stadium marching band.
The combined forces of the Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will perform Robert W. Smith’s “Africa: Ceremony, Song and Ritual” and “Twelve Seconds to the Moon.”
Other highlights include David Maslanka’s “Mother Earth Fanfare,” Richard Saucedo’s “Whirlwinds,” David Holsinger’s “To Tame the Perilous Skies,” James Curnow’s “Fanfare and Flourishes,” Nobuo Uematsu’s “Video Games Live – Part 2,” and Jerry Goldsmith’s “Symphonic Suite from Star Trek – The Motion Picture.”
The 120-member Mustang Marching Band will be conducted by students Justin Paulson and Jeffrey Brown. The band will perform a stage version of some of its half-time shows including excerpts from the band’s jazz show, metal show, space show and patriotic show.
