Cal Poly Financial Aid Counselor Named Grand Marshal for April 18 Poly Royal Parade
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Lisa Bruce, a Cal Poly financial aid counselor and former assistant coordinator of the university’s Orientation Programs, has been named this year’s Open House Poly Royal Parade Grand Marshal.
The parade will take place Saturday, April 18 as part of Cal Poly’s 16th annual Open House.
Bruce, who has worked with the Financial Aid Office for more than a year, takes pride in helping students.
As assistant coordinator of Orientation Programs, Bruce worked closely with the Open House committee from 2002 to 2008, overseeing logistics, risk management, facilities usage and leader training.
Orientation Programs coordinates three programs for new Cal Poly students and their families: Open House, Week of Welcome, and Student Orientation, Advising and Registration. For more details, log on to http://orientation.calpoly.edu/.
“Orientation Programs is a very special and unique experience for students,” Bruce said. “It plays a huge role in their success at Cal Poly. It is the start of their lives here, both academically and socially.”
Open House showcases the campus to admitted and current students, their supporters, alumni, and the San Luis Obispo community. This year, it will run April 16-18.
April 18 is open to the public and will begin with the Poly Royal Parade at 9 a.m. at Grand Avenue and Perimeter Road. The parade will travel down North Perimeter toward Via Carta, ending at Dexter Lawn. Seating is available along the route.
Activities following the parade will include a kids’ fair, live music, RoboRodentia, the Cal Poly Tractor Pull, Cal Poly Rodeo, and other events.
