Cal Poly to Stage Bilingual Theatre Production of
‘Blood Wedding’ Feb. 26-28; March 5-7
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department will present a stage production of Federico García Lorca’s “Blood Wedding” “(Bodas de sangre”) at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Feb. 26-28 and March 5-7. A matinee performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7. All performances will be in the Spanos Theatre on campus.
Inspired from a true Andalusian story that he read in a local newspaper, playwright and poet Federico García Lorca’s “Blood Wedding” presents the tragic tale of three entangled lovers and their fight with tradition, pain and honor. “This classic story of passion and revenge evokes the spirit, ritual and mythology of rural Spain during the beginning of the 20th century,” said Josh Machamer of the Theatre and Dance Department. “Combining both English and Spanish on stage, this bilingual theatre production uses a cast of 13 actors plus elements of music, dance and poetry to portray the constraints of an honor-bound society and the murderous consequences of unbridled desire.”
This is the second show of three produced by Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department as part of its 2008-2009 Mainstage Season.
Tickets are $10 to $12. For ticket information, call 756-2787. For information about the play or Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department, contact Josh at 756-5560 or jmachame@calpoly.edu or go online to http://www.cla.calpoly.edu/thtrdanc/index.html.
