Cal Poly City and Regional Planning Program Receives Awards
for Community Development Projects

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s City and Regional Planning Department has been recognized with statewide academic merit awards for two projects.

The projects, the Downtown Delano Urban Design Studio and the Draft Benicia Climate Action Plan, continue the department’s strong tradition of assisting California’s communities to improve their cities through excellence in planning.

The Downtown Delano Urban Design Studio was led by Umut Toker, city and regional planning professor. Toker and his students set the guidelines for Delano’s efforts to improve its entire downtown design image and public realm.

The Draft Benicia Climate Action Plan was led by professors Adrienne Greve and Zeljka Howard. The professors and students created a state of the art plan for addressing energy use and a program to address the challenges of climate change for the city of Benicia. Greve will continue her work in climate action planning with other cities in California.

The awards will be presented to at the annual chapter meetings to be held in Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, September 15.
