SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Provocative Perspective series continues Thursday, Nov. 13, with speaker Ray Suarez, a senior correspondent for the PBS show “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.”
The free event will take place in Sage Restaurant, formerly Vista Grande, at Cal Poly beginning with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and followed by the lecture at 8.
Suarez will discuss Washington politics and the role the media plays in influencing policy. He will explore today’s major news stories and bring perspective to the torrent of information the public is flooded with daily.
Following his presentation, Suarez will be in the University Union Student Lounge from 10 to 11 a.m. for an informal discussion on the role the media plays in influencing policy.
Suarez previously hosted National Public Radio's nationwide call-in news program “Talk of the Nation.” He is the author of “The Old Neighborhood: What We Lost in the Great Suburban Migration.”
Suarez has received numerous awards, including the 1996 Ruben Salazar Award from the National Council of La Raza, Current History Magazine's 1995 Global Awareness Award, and a Chicago Emmy Award.
He is a longtime member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a founding member of the Chicago Association of Hispanic Journalists.
