Chinese Delegation Tours Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- A delegation of officials from Shandong, China, visited Cal Poly's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences May 23 during a tour of California's agricultural areas.

Chinese DelegationThe delegation arrived in California to study the state's agricultural practices and produce tracking technology and applications.

In San Luis Obispo, the group listened to a presentation from Associate Dean Mark Shelton, toured Cal Poly's organic farm. They also visited Cal Poly's Radio Frequency Identification lab, PolyGait, for a presentation from Engineering Professor Tali Freed.

RFID technology and its resulting "smart" magnetic bar code labels, are becoming increasingly important in field-to-table food quality and safety measures. Professors in Cal Poly's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and College of Engineering are working together on RFID advances and applications.

Two smart-label technology firms participated in the tour: Trunkbow Technologies in Jinan, China and Rapid ID, a firm with offices in Denver and San Luis Obispo.
