Leading Environmental Advocate is Keynote Speaker at Cal Poly Sustainability Conference

SAN LUIS OBIPSO – Green economy advocate Jerome Ringo, director of the Apollo Alliance and one of Washingtonian magazine’s list of the top 30 people changing the environment, will present the keynote address at a conference on sustainability in higher education this summer at Cal Poly.

Cal Poly will host the seventh annual UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference July 31-Aug. 3. Titled “Putting Sustainability to Work,” the event is a system-wide exchange between the University of California, California State University and California Community College campuses.

Held in conjunction with the Investor Owned Utilities Energy Efficiency Partnership, the aim is to foster collaboration between campuses, government, business and non-profit entities.

With about 1,000 attendees expected, the conference will be the largest event of its kind—allowing staff, faculty and students to showcase best practices for campus sustainability, from teaching and academic research to all aspects of campus operations.

A separate keynote address will be given by Deb Rowe, a Senior Fellow in Education for Sustainability in the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future. Break-out sessions include workshops on curriculum, green building operations, and student health and education facilities.

Student scholarships are available for the event.
