Cal Poly Earns CSU Award for Efforts on Web Accessibility for Disabled
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Information Technology Services department earned awards this spring for its efforts to make university Web pages accessible to disabled users.
Cal Poly earned two of four awards given by the California State University system for best practices at the 2008 CSU Northridge Technology & Persons with Disabilities Conference.
Cal Poly was honored for Best Practices in Communications and Training for its “Think B4U Teach, Buy, Design” campaign on campus. The campaign poster, logo and Web site (www.accessibility.calpoly.edu ) promote the importance of accessibility and Cal Poly’s commitment to equal access for all.
Cal Poly also received the Best Practices in Web Accessibility award for its Web Authoring Resource Center website, www.warc.calpoly.edu. The site includes information and links to tools such as templates and a compliance guide to help Web developers and designers create and evaluate Web sites for accessibility.
Cal Poly Disability Resource Center Director Trey Duffy and Sally Anderson of the university’s ITS department accepted the awards on behalf of the university and hosted a table at the conference showcasing Cal Poly’s success stories.
The CSU’s Accessible Technology Initiative presented awards during the conference to individuals, groups and organizations that have made significant contributions to supporting accessibility in the CSU.
A complete list of award recipients and the success stories from each campus are posted on the CSU Chancellor’s Office Accessible Technology Initiative Web site.
