Cal Poly Hosts Summer Science Camp for Pacheco Elementary Students

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly Chemistry Professor Laura Baxley teamed up with Pacheco Elementary School teacher Judy Newhouser and four student assistants to teach science to 20 Central Coast students in a special summer science camp in late June.

The science camp, organized by Patrica Ponce in Cal Poly's Academic Programs department, gave the fifth- and sixth-grade students hands-on science sessions in the morning, with some really nifty and safe experiments. Students spent the afternoon touring the university.

The four-day science camp was the result of a partnership between Rick Mayfield, Pacheco Elementary School Principal and Cal Poly's Center for Excellence in Science and Math Education and CP Academic Programs.
