Cal Poly’s Triathlon Team to Host 4th Annual Triathlon Series March 22
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Triathlon team will host the 4th annual March Triathlon Series (MTS) race at Lake Lopez on Saturday, March 22. The event is open to the public, the race starts at 9 a.m.
MTS consists of two separate races; March Warm Up and March in Motion. March Warm Up is a ‘sprint distance’ race consisting of a 700-yard swim, 14-mile bike race and a 3.1-mile run.
March in Motion, is an ‘Olympic distance’ race with a 1.5-kilometer swim, 24.8-mile bike race, and a 6.2-mile run.
Lake Lopez has been home to MTS for the past two years which has allowed a larger number of people to participate. Before the race moved to Lake Lopez, it was held on campus at Cal Poly.
The race serves as the biggest fundraiser for the Cal Poly Triathlon team. Planning for the student-organized event begins in September and includes volunteer, donor and sponsorship coordination, as well as race registration. Last year more than 80 volunteers, from Cal Poly and the local community helped support more than 400 racers.
This year MTS boasts its first major sponsor – Fluid, a sports recovery drink developed by two Cal Poly graduates. The company prides itself on producing a product that uses high-quality ingredients to target glycogen replenishment, muscle protein synthesis and decreased inflammation – all of which replenish tired muscles, reduce workout soreness, and support a stressed immune system.
Event pre-registration is available through www.active.com until March 20. Participants may also register on-site the day of the event. For more information, visit www.marchtraiathlonseries.com.
