Retired IT Professor, Dean Carl Cummins
Retired Industrial Technology Professor and Dean Carl C. Cummins of San Luis Obispo died Thursday, Jan. 3. He was professor at San Diego State University before transferring to Cal Poly in 1958 to head up the newly formed Industrial Technology Department. In 1961 he was appointed as Dean of the College of Applied Arts and served for 25 years until his retirement.

Retired IT Professor William Bruckart
Longtime Industrial Technology Professor William Lee Bruckart died Sunday, Jan. 20. He was well known as a metallurgical engineer and consultant and U.S. Naval submarine officer in addition to his career as a university professor. In 1969 he was appointed to the faculty of the Industrial Technology Department at Cal Poly.

Alumnus, Former Architecture Professor Arthur Silvers
Arthur Silvers, an architect who designed structures throughout California and also worked to end discrimination in housing and employment, died Jan. 18 at the age of 77. At Cal Poly, Silvers earned a master's degree in engineering in 1978. From 1978 until 1986, he served on the faculty of Cal Poly's architecture department.

Engineering Professor Emeritus Franklin Abshire
Franklin Perry Abshire, 68, Professor Emeritus of Cal Poly, passed away at his home Wednesday, Jan. 23.
During his career, he worked for Bell Labs in Columbus, and Mountain Bell in Phoenix, before pursuing his true love of teaching. He taught engineering technology and mathematics at Cal Poly until he retired in 2000.
