Cal Poly Womens' Studies Department, Kicks Off New Lecture Series
With 'Politics of Virginity' Jan. 6

SAN LUIS OBISPO – “Abstinence-Only Sex Education and the Politics of Virginity” is the title of the first talk in a new lecture series to kick off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the San Luis Obispo Public Library.

Cal Poly Political Science Professor and Women's and Gender Studies advisory board member Jean Williams will present the first lecture. In her talk, Williams will examine abstinence-only sex education and discuss her latest book, "The Politics of Virginity: Abstinence in Sex Education." Williams’ expertise includes the politics of sex education, homelessness and domestic violence.

The Cal Poly Women's and Gender Studies at the SLO Public Library lecture series is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Women's & Gender Studies Department and the San Luis Obispo Public Library. The series will include five presentations on the first Tuesday of every month from January through May. All talks will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the San Luis Obispo Public Library at 995 Palm Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. The lectures are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Friends of the Library.
