Cal Poly Architecture Seniors 'Unleash' Design Projects May 23-25
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s fifth-year architecture students will exhibit their thesis projects Memorial Day Weekend in a program entitled “Unleashed.” The exhibit begins with a reception on Friday, May 23, from 3-6 p.m., in Chumash Auditorium, and continues through Monday, May 25 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
The largest exhibition of its kind between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the show will feature the final projects of more than 150 graduating Cal Poly students in a variety of formats, including large-scale models, digital renderings, theory books, and hand drawings. Proposals for residential, mixed use, urban, historic, and cultural structures will all be featured in settings that range from the Central Coast to the moon.
The student architecture club Alpha Rho Chi and a committee of graduating students are organizing the show with guidance from Architecture Department faculty. Cal Poly’s Craig Russell, Thomas Davies to Lead Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble May 24
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble will give its Spring Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.
Titled “From Serra to Sancho: Exploring the Music of the California Missions,” the 11-voice ensemble will present music from the California Missions, with emphasis on works composed by Juan Bautista Sancho, who lived and composed at Mission San Antonio.
Cal Poly Music Professor and noted California mission music scholar Craig Russell will talk about the musical selections before each is performed. Works to be performed include various Mass movements composed by Sancho, as well as several works of unknown authorship found in the mission archives in Santa Clara.
All of the pieces have been edited, and in some cases completed, by Russell.
The Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble will be joined by a small instrumental group, including Russell on baroque guitar. Cal Poly Music Professor Thomas Davies will conduct the performance.
Tickets are $12 for the public and $8 for seniors and students. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket office will receive a 10 percent discount; a 15 percent discount is given to those who buy tickets to five or more events.
