Cal Poly Choirs to Perform Debut Concert Oct. 27

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Choirs will perform their annual Debut Concert featuring music by outstanding American composers at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center's Cohan Center on campus.

This year's introduction to the three Cal Poly Choirs will highlight the new Forbes Pipe Organ. University organist and Music Department staff accompanist Paul Woodring will accompany the choirs in works by Johann Pachelbel, Herbert Murrill and Mack Wilberg.

Pianist Susan Azaret Davies will accompany the choirs in works by Kirke Meechem and Randall Thompson. The evening's program will also include music by Halsey Stevens, former professor at the University of Southern California.

Cal Poly Music Professor Thomas Davies will conduct the 42-member PolyPhonics and the 72-members of The University Singers. In addition, the Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble and the a capella ensemble Take It SLO will also perform.

Tickets are $8 to $15 and can be bought at the Performing Arts Ticket Office 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787). Discounts are given to patrons who buy tickets to four or more Music Department events for 2007-2008.
