Cal Poly Fencing Team Earns Top Prize at 2007 Turkey Tournament
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Fencing Team placed first overall in the 2007 Turkey Tournament, with members earning five first place and five second place awards in individual events and team events.
Andrew LeBeau and Kyle Yamasaki led the way for the Mustang fencers, placing first and third respectively out of 30 competitors in the Mixed Advanced Epee. LeBeau and Collin Smith outmaneuvered 43 other competitors to snag second and third respectively in the Mixed Advanced Foil. Newcomer Kevin Blakley beat 36 other competitors to win first place in the Mixed Novice Foil
In women’s categories, Anna Kopcrak won first place in the Women’s Epee and second in the Women’s Foil, and Racheal Wieczorek earned second in the Women’s Saber. Newcomer Kimberley Glaeser placed first in the Women’s Novice Foil.

The 2007 Turkey Tournament, sponsored by the Northern California Intercollegiate Fencing League and Cal Poly, was held at Cal Poly on Nov. 17 and featured teams from California colleges and universities, including UC Davis, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, and San Jose State.
