Cal Poly Arts Adds Matinee for AILEY II Performance Feb. 10

TICKET SALES:  805/756-2787

SAN LUIS OBISPO– Cal Poly Arts announced that they have added a 3 p.m. matinee to the Sunday, February 10, 2008 AILEY II dance engagement at the Spanos Theatre.

The 7 p.m. February 10th evening performance has only limited seats still available, so Cal Poly Arts was able to schedule a matinee opportunity as well.

Tickets to the afternoon performance are on sale now.

Ailey II is an exceptional company that merges the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today's most outstanding choreographers.

Ailey II began in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, when choreographer Alvin Ailey initiated a workshop composed of the most promising scholarship students from The Ailey School and handpicked the original Ailey II members.

Today, the Company – which emphasizes a balance of repertoire, technique, and performance – has become one of the most popular dance companies in the United States. Under the direction of Sylvia Waters, Ailey II invigorates the American dance scene by offering unique opportunities for artists.

In recent years, Ailey II's distinctive repertory has included works by dance masters Ailey and Talley Beatty; Alvin Ailey/American Dance Theater Artistic Director Judith Jamison; and such innovative choreographers as Donald Byrd, Shapiro & Smith, Shen Wei, Avila/Weeks, Lar Lubovitch, Kevin Wynn, and Ulysses Dove.

A pre-concert lecture by Cal Poly Dance professor Moon Ja Minn Suhr will be held in the Philips Recital Hall one hour prior to each performance.

General public tickets for the performance are $32 & $38, with student discounts available on all seats, and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
