Cal Poly Student Ensemble to Stage Modern-Day Morality Play June 5, 7
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Music Department student production ensemble RSVP will stage productions of “Ligatures!” at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, June 5 and 7, in the Pavilion in the Performing Arts Center.
The “transmedia” production is the second in a trilogy exploring the primeval elements of music itself, said artistic director and RSVP series producer Antonio G. Barata. “A blending of sound, visuals and staging, this theatrical concert is based on the medieval genre of a morality play where characters represent archetypes of virtues and emotions.
“This performance takes the audience deep into the jungle, where a band of guerrilla warriors struggle with the collision of modern warfare and ancient spiritual ways. Satirical humor is interjected by visits with the jungle animals and a group of mafia-like heads of state called ‘The Suits.’ Though set in a time of war, the show is ultimately about hope and ends with an unexpected twist,” Barata said.
Tickets are $11 and are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787).
Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events, through the Performing Arts Ticket office, will receive a 10 percent discount; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events.
The show is sponsored by the Cal Poly Music Department, College of Liberal Arts, and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information, call the Music Department at 756-2406.
