Daniel Pipes to Speak on “Israel, America, and Middle East Threats” March 5
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Historian, author, counter terrorism analyst and Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes will speak on the Cal Poly campus Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Spanos Theatre.
Pipe’s lecture, “Israel, America, and Middle East Threats,” is sponsored by Hillel of SLO, the foundation for Jewish Life for both Cal Poly and Cuesta College. The lecture, followed by a question and answer session, is free and open to the public.
Pipes is director of the Middle East Forum, a non-profit organization that promotes American interests in the Middle East, and a prize-winning columnist. Domestically, he writes for New York Sunand Philadelphia’s Evening Bulletin. Abroad, his columns appear weekly in Israel's Jerusalem Post, Italy's L'Opinione, Spain's La Razón.
Pipes has written 12 books, including his most recent one, “Miniatures: Views of Islamic and Middle Eastern Politics.”His Web site, DanielPipes.org, is considered a source of specialized information on the Middle East and Islam.
Pipes received his doctorate in history from Harvard University in 1978. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Harvard, and the U.S. Naval War College. He has also served in various capacities in the U. S. government, including two president-appointed positions. He was a member of the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace and director of the Foreign Policy Research Institute from 1986-93.
Pipes frequently discusses current issues on television programs, including ABC World News, CBS Reports, Crossfire, Good Morning America, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer , Nightline, O'Reilly Factor, and The Today Show.
