Zambian Ambassador Give Keynote Speech Nov. 16 During International Education Week
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the United States – a Cal Poly graduate – will be the keynote speaker for International Education Week, Nov. 13-17.
Ambassador Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika will speak Thursday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to noon in Chumash Auditorium. In her speech, “Training to Take on the World,” she will discuss her the importance of her education, her work with the United Nations, as well as her rise in government to become Ambassador of Zambia.
The event is free and open to the public. Mbikusita-Lewanika received a Bachelor of Science in home economics and education in 1964, and a master’s degree in education psychology in 1965, both from Cal Poly. She received a doctoral degree in early childhood education from NYU.
Mbikusita-Lewanika has taught at the University of Zambia, worked for UNICEF and served two terms as a Member of Zambian Parliament. In 2002 she was appointed Ambassador and Special Envoy for the President of the Republic of Zambia covering African Affairs and overseeing the transition from the Organization of African Unity to the African Union.
International Education Week promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. It is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
