Award-winning Native American Author to Speak
on Genocide Tribunals Dec. 4 at Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus and noted storyteller Gerald Vizenor will speak on “Genocide Tribunals: Native American Rights and Survivance” Monday, Dec. 4, at 4:10 p.m. in Philips Hall in the Cohan Center at Cal Poly.
Vizenor, winner of the American Book Award and the Western Literature Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award, is currently a professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico.
The award-winning writer comes from a long line of storytellers. “You can't understand the world without telling a story," Vizenor said. “There isn’t any center to the world but story.”
He is a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Reservation.
