Cal Poly Landscape Architecture Student Awarded $1,000 Scholarship

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Dalton LaVoie, a fifth-year landscape architecture student at Cal Poly, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Sigma Lambda Alpha, the national honors society for landscape architecture.

The national scholarship is given annually to only one undergraduate member of Sigma Lambda Alpha.

"Dalton’s performance academically and his passion for design in landscape architecture are both exemplary,” said William MacElroy, professor and student advisor of Cal Poly’s Landscape Architecture Department. “His commitment to the department, to the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, as well as to his student colleagues, is clearly evident through his leadership in student organizations.”

"This award is a testament to the strength of Cal Poly's Landscape Architecture Department at the national level and evidence of the quality of education our students receive,” said Dalton. “This award will help open new doors for me in my pursuit of creative, sustainable design solutions that balance the social, economic and ecologic forces at work in the landscapes of our future."

Sigma Lambda Alpha grants national scholarships to a graduate and an undergraduate member each year to encourage, recognize, and reward academic excellence in preparation for the profession of landscape architecture.

LaVoie’s hometown is Rocklin, Calif.
