Cal Poly City Planning Exhibition Nov. 29 Future Engineers to Display Ideas for City of 2050
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly civil engineering and city and regional planning students will present ideas for the future of San Luis Obispo at the City Planning Exhibition on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The event will be held at the San Luis Obispo City-County Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Professor Eugene Jud asked his public transportation class to create a proposal for “SLO South 2050,” a transit-oriented, highly sustainable model city. The students were required to balance current community concerns with future progress. The exhibition gives city officials and community members an opportunity to see how up-and-coming engineers and city planners imagine the future of San Luis Obispo.
“Good ideas can come from anywhere,” Jud said. “These students are the engineers of tomorrow, and they have an impact on how San Luis Obispo will look in the future.”
During the event each group will give a short presentation, and guests may discuss the displays with the students. Each project presents a general idea of the city in 2050, and addresses sustainable land use, sustainable mobility and main activity centers, including the Dalidio property, Prado Road, a possible freeway interchange, the Margarita and airport areas and the Damon-Garcia Sports Complex.
