Mustang Daily Takes Awards at National Newspaper Competition
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The student advertising and business staff at the Mustang Daily, Cal Poly's student-produced daily newspaper, took top awards at the College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers Convention.
The conference took place March 8-11 in Philadelphia. The Mustang Daily took first place in the "Best Sales and Promotions Materials" category for materials promoting the "Summer Mustang" publication.
The Daily's student ad staff also won first place in the "Best General Media Kit/Marketing Package" category for its media kit promoting the Mustang Daily.
The Daily took second place in the "Best College Newspaper Promotion Ad - Color" for its Automotive Directory promotion.
Student newspapers were judged on their overall advertising design, content and production quality. Judges were professionals working for various newspapers across the nation, including The Tribune.
Four Mustang Daily student advertising staff members attended the conference, along with General Manager Paul Bittick. The Daily's student advertising sales and design staffs are open to all majors at Cal Poly.
More than 350 students and advisers attended the annual four-day convention along with representatives of major newspaper organizations including Knight Ridder, Gannett, Lee Enterprises and Landmark Communications.
