Cal Poly Organic Farm Featured on January KCET Broadcasts
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's Organic Farm will be the subject of an upcoming episode of the PBS series, "California's Green," hosted by Huell Howser.
The show will air on KCET Sunday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and will be rebroadcast Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Howser interviewed Cal Poly Organic Farm Manager Terry Hooker and Cal Poly students working on the 11-acre farm, focusing on its Community Supported Agriculture program.
For a fee, CSA subscribers get a weekly box of freshly picked vegetables, fruit, eggs, flowers and herbs from the organic farm. The CSA program served 180 members in 2005.
Largely student managed and supported by several departments within the Cal Poly College of Agriculture, the Organic Farm is home to a variety of programs and classes in addition to the CSA program. Students can enroll to study at the Farm through the organic enterprise class or organic agriculture lecture class, which features lab sections taught at the Organic Farm.
