Cal Poly University Jazz Band Plays Swing Dance Concert Jan. 12; Free Dance Lessons Offered

SAN LUIS OBISPO - The public is invited to a dance concert Friday, Jan. 12, featuring original swing-era tunes played by Cal Poly’s University Jazz Band No. 1.

The dance, part of a series of swing dance concerts, will be from 8 to 10:30 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium in the University Union on campus. Free swing dance lessons will be given at 7 p.m.

The University Jazz Band will perform authentic big-band classics suitable for dancing or listening, according to band director Paul Rinzler. The band is planning additional swing dance concerts on March 2, April 13 and May 11.

Admission to the dance is $9 for the public and $6 for students. The event is sponsored by the Cal Poly Music Department, College of Liberal Arts and the Instructionally Related Activities program.
