2006 Greek Day of Service is April 23
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- More than 500 members of the Cal
Poly Greek Life Program will be participating in the 2006 Greek
Day of Service on Sunday, April 23. This annual event is one of
the largest student service programs on the Cal Poly campus.
Men and women from more than 20 different fraternities and sororities
will volunteer throughout San Luis Obispo to work at more than 15
different sites. Sites include the Growing Grounds Farm, the Botanical
Gardens at Chorro Park, the San Luis Obispo Water Reclamation Plant
and the YMCA.
The students will log more than 2,000 hours of community service
in one day. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a closing
barbecue at El Chorro Park.
Service locations are:
- Growing Grounds Farm, Orcutt Road & Johnson Avenue - general
work
- City Water Reclamation Facility - removing non-native species
- City Parks, Orcutt Field - trash cleanup
- City Parks, Bowden Ranch - fence building
- Options office, 800 Quintana, Suite 2C, Morro Bay Blvd - painting
- Central Coast Salmon Enhancement, Hartford Pier at Port San
Luis - setting nets to protect fish
- YMCA, 1020 Southwood Dr. - mailings and facility work
- Garden House Alzheimers facility, 480 Main St, Morro Bay - birthday
party for residents, singing, and entertaining
- Botanical Garden, El Chorro Regional Park - general gardening
- Environmental Council, Highway 1 and
- Stenner Creek Road - creek cleanup, weeding, mulching, watering
- Morro Bay National Estuary Program, Highway 1 North, left on
Gilardi Road (across from shooting range), immediate right through
gate - creek cleanup and restoration
- Cal Poly Organic Farm - general work
- Chumash Challenge grounds, Stenner Creek Road - spreading gravel,
improving walkways
- SLO Arts Council, 570 Higuera (The Creamery) suite 175 - painting,
cleaning, helping with expansion, office makeover
- EOC Case management, 736 Orcutt Road - planting a memorial garden
- Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter, 750 Orcutt Road - general work
- Brizzolara Creek, Cal Poly - cleanup and weeding
