Dorm Move-In, WOW, and First Day of Fall Quarter Coming Up

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Mark your assignment/photo calendars: the students are coming back to Cal Poly. This year, 3,423 new first-time freshmen will be arriving on campus. They have the highest incoming GPA in Cal Poly’s history: 3.83.

Cal Poly Back-To-School Dates and Events:

Friday, Sept. 9 -- Fall Conference; annual event for faculty and staff beginning the academic year. Keynote speaker will be announced soon. Media are invited, but the event is not open to the general public.

Saturday Sept. 9 & Sunday Sept. 10: -- Dorm Move-In days. Freshmen and their parents will arrive to move into Cal Poly’s residence halls. Editors/reporters please note: you are welcome to film and interview in the common and public areas around the residence halls, but please try not to block walkways, sidewalks or building entries. Pedestrian and auto traffic is heavy on those days.

Students and their parents will also be registering for WOW (Week of Welcome), their campus e-mail accounts and ID cards in front of Mott Gym and in and around the University Union on those two days. Campus clubs, groups and offices will also have plenty of booths in the UU Plaza with information and giveaways for students and parents.

Monday, Sept. 12 -- WOW (Week of Welcome) begins. Freshmen will gather in the ASI Rec Center between 9 and 11:30 a.m. to meet their WOW groups and leaders. The WOW-A-Rama night rally in the Cal Poly sports complex runs from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Tuesday Sept. 13 -- WOW groups will be downtown starting at roughly 11 a.m. for lunch at Mitchell Park and tours of downtown, wrapping up around 5 p.m.
