Cal Poly Blood Drive Sept. 28 Kicks Off
Local Law Enforcement Campaign to ‘Save Lives’

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s University Police Department is kicking off a countywide blood drive by local law enforcement agencies on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The “Helping Police Save Lives” campaign hopes to draw enough donors to meet the local need for at least 150 blood donations per day, according to Mona Kleman, senior community relations representative for the Tri-Counties Blood Bank. “Mobile blood drives are a critical part of our local blood program. All blood that is transfused locally comes from blood bank donors, with. about 40 percent of all blood drawn in our community collected on mobile blood drives.”.

The Tri-Counties Blood Bank bus will be on the Cal Poly campus in front of Mott Gym from
11 a.m.-3 p.m. September 28 to accept donations. Blood donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health the day of the donation.

A Tri-Counties Blood Bank donor card, driver’s license, passport, Social Security card, birth certificate or other suitable photo ID is required. Snacks and beverages will be served. All Blood donors will automatically be entered into a drawing to win one of four lunches at the new Garden Grill Restaurant on campus, compliments of Foundation Dining.

University Police will also be available to answer questions related to police, parking and access services on campus.

This University Police program is the first in the series connected to a countywide blood drive which most county law enforcement agencies will sponsor in their own communities. Blood transfusions help save the lives of accident and surgery patients, and patients with diseases like cancer, leukemia and anemia.

To schedule an appointment or receive information about future blood drives hosted by
law enforcement agencies, contact Donna Jordan at the University Police Department, (805)756-6679 or djordan@calpoly.edu.
